The Lone Star Drift 2013 season got on it’s way in Houston, Texas at Greyhound Park a couple of weeks ago. Lone Star Drift is a grassroots drift event where drivers compete to earn a Formula Drift license but it’s also a great place to learn about drifting and just have a great time. This was our second consecutive year attending the event and we notice a substantial growth in attendance. It makes us happy to see such a great grassroots turn out. Make sure to follow Lone Star Drift and attend if you can! A bit thank you to both Fabricated Motorsports and Non Stop Tuning for having us out! Photo gallery after the jump. – Alex
As you can tell by some of our recent posts, the Formula Drift season is around the corner! The track layout for round 1 is a real test for drivers and usually sets the tone for the remainder of the season. If you can make it out, do so1 You won’t regret it. For now, check out this FD Promo Video for Round 1 in Long Beach (April 12-13th).

Made my second stop at Nate Hamilton’s shop and as you can see, the engine made it in and was being worked on during my visit. Nate is using a LS7/LS3 built by LG Motorsport – a bigger motor than what he ran last year. It’s basically a LS7 head with a LS3 block. LG Motorsport will tune the car as well. This year, Nate picked up Holley as a sponsor so will be using Holley throttle body, fuel rails, etc. More photos after the jump.
If you follow us on Facebook, you know we always show love to the Hachi-Roku (Japanese for Eight-Six). Dave, in Hawaii, had a chance to stop by this Classic Toyota meet and was able to snap several AE86’s. I love these cars so much, I’m always wearing my Hachi-Roku crewneck – even though I don’t even own an AE86! Don’t judge me. More photos after the jump. Feel free to share the photos on your Facebook, Instagram, etc. Photos by Dave Coulter. – Alex
Had a chance to catch up with Formula Drift rookie Nate Hamilton at his shop just outside of Dallas, Texas. Nate will begin his rookie season of Formula Drift this April in Long Beach. We’ve been following him around for a couple of years so definitely looking forward to his first run at the pro level. He’s building a brand new S13 similar to the one he ran last year in which he earned his Formula D pro license. Last year’s S13 will be used for demos, local stuff and perhaps some international events. More photos after the jump.
Our friend Joon Maeng has some new sponsors for his Lucas Oil S13! Looking forward to seeing him on the track this Formula Drift Season. Full press release after the jump. – Alex
Check out this Frankenstine of a RX7! Cool video by the guys at TUNED. – WMD
Would you drive a car built by a teenager in his parents driveway with no safety features whatsoever? We did, and now we’ll tell you why this ugly RX7 is so brilliant. – TUNED
Effective immediately, Bergenholtz Racing will postpone its participation in the 2013 Formula Drift Series indefinitely to focus resources in other efforts and opportunities. “It is with great regret that we will not be competing this year. The intensity, challenges, and excitement of drifting is something we will surely miss. Most of all, we will miss the comradery amongst all the Formula Drift Teams. We have truely enjoyed being part of the drift community/family and wish the continued success to everyone at Formula Drift and to all its competitors. ” Said Ron Bergenholtz Team Manager of Bergenholtz Racing.
It’s going to be strange not seeing Ron running around at every Formula Drift event. The Bergenholtz team has been a WMD supporter since the get go and has always showed us great hospitality in their pit. They’ve fed me, had me in their home, etc. so they will truly be missed! We hope to see you guys back on the track soon. Thanks for everything! – Alex
