Formula Drift round 3 took place at Palm Beach International Raceway this past weekend where Michael Essa, driver of the GSR Yokohama Tire BMW E46, took the number one spot. Rain was expected throughout the weekend but only really came down during Friday night’s practice session – other than a few sprinkles off and on, the track was pretty much dry. Michael Essa might have only qualified in the 21st position but he came to win for Saturday’s main event. It was Essa’s first ever Formula Drift podium finish and it was a good one – winning first place! A breakdown of Essa’s winning night after the jump.

If you ever want to prove to your friends or doubters in general that Drifting is a big deal, there’s no better place to take them than the final round of Formula Drift at the house of drift! It was another exciting and dramatic round at Irwindale Speedway where after many twists and turn in events, FD rookie Daigo Saito came out on top of not only round 7 but the over all series. Another insane round of Formula Drift went down in New Jersey this past weekend. Vaughn Gittin JR was back in BOSS mode after getting a rough start to the season. After qualifying second Friday afternoon and winning the event, he has been bumped up to 4th in points. Another podium finish and he’s back in the running for this season’s championship! Round 2 in Atlanta has always been my favorite largely due to the high speed entree point but Wall definitely takes the cake for most carnage and demolition! Let’s see, where do we start… the above photo shows the last battle of the night between Fredric Aasbo in the Need For Speed Scion TC and JTP Justin Pawlak in the Falken Tire  Ford Mustang. Aasbo was on fire after taking out crowd favorite Daigo Saito but it was still not enough to beat out winner of round 1, JTP.  Justin won the event with Aasbo coming in second and Daigo Saito in third. But let’s back track a little bit to some of our favorite battles of the night!
