When doing my research on forums and other sites, I found that plenty of people having cooling issues during those long hot track days. Being in Texas, where it can get up to 105 degrees in the summer, we wanted to make this a non issue. We found the
Koyo’s 37mm radiator not only fixed this problem, but swapped out perfectly with the OEM without a hassle. This Miata radiator is a complete plug and play application that won’t interfere with thicker aftermarket sway bars. That was a big selling point for me since I are adding some Whiteline products soon after the Koyo radiator install. Just a side note – this thing look so clean! More instal pics after the jump.
First off, the Koyo radiator is well packaged. So unless your UPS or FedEx guy is an idiot, you should get your radiator without being damaged.
The old radiator was in good working condition but we wanted to take this preemptive instal to avoid problems in the future. Forrest of
Texas Track Works began removing the old radiator.
First the fluids were drained, then the fans were removed. The stock fans will fit the Koyo radiator without a problem which is a big plus. This is definitely an easy instal and can be done in your garage without too much trouble.
Once the old one came of, Andrew began installing the new shiny radiator. The new Koyo 37mm aluminum radiator went on. It's about twice as thick as the stock one but fit perfectly.
As I mentioned earlier, the Koyo is a straight plug and play application so Andrew was able to use the stock hardware without any issues.
The stock fans went back on. When doing research, I didn't see too many Miata owners who had problems with stock fans. These fans are in almost new condition so we shouldn't have problems with them anytime soon.
Everything was tightened up and we were ready to add fluids.
Texas Track Works likes to use a 50/50 mix for most of their track cars.
The Koyo radiator instal went smoothly and looks amazing. When I show people the engine, it's the first thing they notice. It's a bonus to have performance first companies make their product look nice as well.
As you can see, we have our
